Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they ever faced. It’s a confusing time when many feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues they’ve never had to deal with before. If you are like most of us, you are probably uncomfortable coming to your first DivorceCare session. You don’t like the circumstances you are in; you might be deeply hurt by what has happened; and it’s likely you are feeling angry about your situation. You might also be a little embarrassed.
These feelings are normal. They are the kind of feelings several have when going to their first divorce care group. But after the first few sessions, you’ll begin to notice that you look forward to coming, that you find it helpful to be around people who understand how you feel and that you have a place to talk about what is going on in your life.
You’ll hear concepts and practical advice that can help you heal from your separation and divorce. In fact, you’ll hear things that can help you put the pieces of your life back together again.
We’re sorry for the circumstances that bring you to this group, but we’re glad you found us. We look forward to spending the next few months together as you start down the road toward rebuilding your life. Our prayer is that you will heal and, in the process, develop a deepening relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
You don’t have to go through it alone.
DivorceCare is a warm, caring environment designed to help you move toward rebuilding your life. You’ll discover there are people who understand your hurts, emotions and painful experiences! In DivorceCare, you’ll find that you are not alone, that there are others who understand what you are going through. The DivorceCare DVD videos feature top experts on divorce and recovery subjects and case studies of people just like you, who are going through or have been through divorce. You’ll become part of a “family.” DivorceCare group members often tell us that they feel like their group has become a family, that they made new friends and are around people they can relate to.
There is no charge for the Divorce Care sessions, however the DivorceCare workbook for the 13-week session is $15. There are scholarships available as needed. For more information, you can call the church at 304.727.4907.
